vegan smoothies
{Quick tip! If you like drinking smoothies with a straw, please get yourself some steel ones, save the planet!}

I’ve never really been a big fan of smoothies but recently that has changed. I think it is because I’ve found it more fun to make them, I love to come up with ideas on what to put in it and than also using a good blender makes a huge difference.

Im using the NutriBullet Balance blender. is about $200, but i can also recommend their MagicBullet blender which is about $30.

The balance blender is smart and can connect to your phone!

When you’re making a smoothie you need a base, fluid of some kind. I almost always use water because I don’t want the smoothie to be too thick and it doesn’t add any unwanted flavor, sugar or fat. Here’s an example of what you can use

Fluid Base:

  • Water
  • Coconut Water
  • Juice
  • Milk (oat, almond or you’re favorite plant-based)
  • Vegan Yogurt

You can absolutely use more than 2 of these, try until you find your favorite.

To get the sweetness to your smoothie you wanna add fruit and berries. I always make sure to have bananas at home, I don’t even eat bananas but in smoothies, they feel like a must. They have a rich sweet flavor and don’t contain as much water as other fruits which I like. Then I just whatever fruit and berries I have at home, fresh or frozen.

Fruit and berries

  • Bananas
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Passionfruit
  • Kiwi
  • Mango
  • Cherries
  • Raspberries
  • Pineapples
  • Lemon
  • Apple

There’s, of course, a lot of other fruits and berries to add but these are the ones a usually go for. Look for what’s on sale and try to get everything frozen, it will save you a lot of money. I also ways add lemon, that’s a fruit, right?

Greens and vegetables

I’m very bad at eating greens so adding them in ton my smoothies are very convenient. I really love green smoothies, it might just be a placebo effect but it makes me feel really healthy. So for greens, I add spinach and/or kale, they don’t add any flavor just use a lot. For veggies, I always add some ginger, just peel it and cut off how much you want to add.

Other veggies and greens you can use are:

  • Carrots
  • Kale
  • Ginger
  • Spinach
  • Celery
  • Asparagus
  • Avocado
  • Cauliflower

Extra Add-Inns

To the fun part… what fun unexpected things can you add to your smoothies? okay, maybe these are not unexpected but definitely classed as add-ins as they’re not classed as one of the base ingredients.

  • Tumeric
  • Peanutbutter
  • Chia seeds
  • Mint
  • Protein Powder
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Vanilla
  • Coffee
  • Coconut

As you can see, you can add whatever you want. That’s the fun things with smoothies, you can experiment with your favorite flavors and come up with something unique!
